They are given warning about the internet (and rightly so, since there is no end of weirdos and obsessed ex-Witnesses that spend 24 hours a day, 7 days a week creating thousands of spam sites and spamming the comments every news article from anywhere in the world that contains "Jehovah" in it, e.g., that nutjob Danny Hazard). But they are not forbidden from using the internet. And besides, if they are wanting a specific, 100 year old publication so badly that they can't just use a physical copy in one of the Halls, then the odds are that they are wanting it for a specific reason, and that they are already familiar with the anti-Witness spam on the internet.

I think that you are reading WAY too much into their motives, and are sacrificing common sense in the process.

If it is true that there is no CCJW in Australia then why shouldn't they point it out? It's true isn't it? Do you think that they should just let the accuser make up whatever they want with no challenge?

And besides all of those points, there still remains the fact that a lot of the information being discussed here is public domain and is already readily available on various archive sites (like archive.org). The Watchtower Magazines from 1879-1949 are so abundant and easy to find online that even an 80 year old grandmother with little computing experience could get them. Heck, I myself have a Watchtower PDF library of over 800 publications that I found entirely on my own! If you really want them, you can find them.

So what is the point of expanding the WT Library CD then? It would be superfluous.

As the great economist Milton Friedman once said: nothing is free.

Expanding the library is a very large undertaking and dedication of resources like that would need a legitimate REASON. But right now Teary just can't think of one. The old books are still right there in the Hall for anybody to read (even if they willingly choose not to), so there is techically no pressing NEED to expand the library (othe than apostates whining that they want old publications). The "we aren't allowed to actually use the physical library" excuse is moot as well, because Teary used the physical libraries of several Halls for years whenever he wanted to, and he saw many others doing the same with no problems.

p.s., Bethel headquarters isn't just full of a bunch of lazy slackers that wait around all day waiting for somebody to give them a project -- they are there to accomplish specific jobs in the most efficient way possible. They only have as many people as the work merits and no more. The Society's resources are also uses as efficiently as possible and yet there is still constant need (such as the 100+ million dollars a year they have to spend to support missionaries, special pioneers and such in addition to RBC projects, publishing costs, ect.). So to say that they could just click their heels together and magically have an expanded WT library is silly. Remember, it is not just as simple as taking a book and scanning it -- all of the text and scriptures from every publication would have to be integrated into the existing indexing and referencing system. Far more difficult than just putting together a normal book -- it would take a few years at least even if they did see a need for it.

I do not see how they could take the time to scan every single peice of literature they have ever published for over 130 years . And why should they- who would download such a file into their computer anyway?"

A very reasonable point. They are already busy taking care of the needs of 100,000 congregations all over the world in addition to their vast translation and publishing work. And several here have already stated that most people don't care about 100+ year old publications anyways, so why should the Society waste vaste amounts of time and resources exenting the Library back 80 years when very few are going to use it, and when a person who is genuinely interested in old publications can just use the physical Hall libraries?

Again, all of this is more of a request coming from ex-Witnesses than it is a request coming from actual Witnesses (and the Society has no obligation to the ex-Witnesses).

You and several others still seem rather confused over this. The counsel wasn't talking about congregations or Witnesses in general -- they were referring to a very specific U.S. legal entity officially titled "Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses." And in that sense, they were correct in saying that it does not exist in Australia, because it is a U.S. entity made to deal primarily with U.S. interests.

The Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses was only created about 11 years ago to deal with U.S. interests. They are quite correct when they say that it doesn't technically exist in Australia.

And even historically, people have tried to pull CCJW into lawsuits but have always failed (in one case because the dumb accuser didn't realize that CCJW was created about 15 years after the alleged events named in his suit took place and therefore had nothing to do with it).

And there have been children victimized at Mcdonalds, and at a Bapitist church, and in the middle of a park, and in the middle of a classroom full of people, and a school, and while riding a rollercoaster...but that doesn't mean that there is some kind of extra, substantial risk at those places, or that the places should be locked down and the people associated with them should be demonized.

A handful of cases in a handful of 100,000 congregations over the course of 100 years doesn't say much either.

I don't think you have nearly enough evidence to support a value judgement like that on 7 million people. Over generalize much?

The congregations do indeed disfellowship abusers (try reading their policies). Additionally, have you ever considered that the congregations might not have the legal authority to publically disclose information on a person's past like that? You get up in front of 100+ people and announce "Bro. so and so did such and such back in 1956 and so you should all avoid him," and there is going to be a whole giant can of legal worms opened up.
